Accurate hours are a basic local-search and customer-experience signal. The right process distinguishes sales, service, support, appointment, and holiday availability so a visitor does not arrive expecting a department that is closed.

List hours by customer task

Identify regular hours for the staffed location, phone, service, sales, parts, support, booking, pickup, delivery, and other relevant departments. Use only distinctions that change what the customer can actually do.

Set holiday and exception ownership

Assign who approves holiday, weather, event, temporary closure, and appointment-only changes. Record effective date, affected department, update time, source, and the person responsible for reverting the change.

Align every channel

Compare profile hours, website, location pages, contact pages, booking systems, voicemail, social profiles, directories, and email signatures. A change is incomplete when one frequently used path still shows old information.

The profile service-area checklist and location conversion checklist cover alignment and action.

Explain appointment behavior

State whether the business accepts appointments outside regular walk-in hours, how requests are confirmed, and what happens on a holiday. Do not show a booking slot that staff cannot honor.

Test the customer path

Check phone clicks, directions, booking, forms, confirmation emails, structured data where used, and mobile presentation. Test the profile and website while an exception is active, then verify the normal schedule returns correctly.

Use clear wording

Avoid abbreviations or time-zone ambiguity that a visitor may misunderstand. Show the relevant time zone and distinguish “open,” “by appointment,” “closed,” and “request pending” when those states matter.

Review hours on a schedule

Assign a recurring review and a change-triggered review after staffing, location, service, holiday, or provider changes. Keep the source of truth documented so staff know where to begin.
